Shoe Storage Lockers for Swimming Halls – What's Good to Know?

In many of the recent swimming hall projects we’ve been involved in, we have heard questions about “shoeless changing rooms”. In practice, this means that before entering the changing room, customers would leave their shoes in a shoe storage locker.

For a more convenient customer experience, the shoe storage locker would be equipped with electric locks that are operated with the same wristbands that are used for the changing room lockers. This is exactly how Pusatec’s shoe storage solutions work. Customers' shoes are stored neatly in their own compartments, and there is no risk of shoes going missing since the locks open up only with the same wristbands that were used for locking them.

The benefit of this shoeless changing room model is, of course, that less dirt and mud gets carried into the changing rooms when shoes are not worn there at all. When there is less dirt in the changing room, less of it also ends up in the pool.

What to consider?

Installing shoe storage lockers requires some considerations for access control arrangements. Shoe storage is typically located after the entry gate and before the changing rooms. We recommend placing the entry gate a bit further from the changing room doors to ensure there is enough space for both benches and the shoe lockers. Since the shoe locker is placed outside the changing rooms, one shoe storage area can serve multiple changing rooms, provided they are accessible from the same space.

Additionally, the area designated for shoe storage and the locker itself should be kept clean for the model to work as intended.

Other ways to improve changing room cleanliness?

The amount of dirt that gets carried from the changing rooms to the pool can also be significantly reduced by making the changing rooms easier to clean. This applies regardless of shoe storage lockers.

• Slanted roof, so dirt doesn’t accumulate and items can’t be left on top of the lockers.
